Summer is here! Beach trips, poolside, sprinklers—oh my! The fun is non-stop this summer, so it’s important to understand how to protect your little ones from the sun. Kids receive 3x more annual UV exposure than adults. According to the CDC, your child’s skin needs protection from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays whenever they’re outdoors. So, here are some of our tips for protecting your children from UV rays this season.
The CDC recommends using sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and UVA and UVB (broad spectrum) protection every time your child goes outside. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors. You never know when adventure awaits, so always keep sunblock in your car, diaper bag, or child’s backpack.
Shade, Shade, Shade!
Seek shade on sunny days using an umbrella, pop-up tent or trees. This will help prevent sunburn for the whole family. Cool and cloudy? Your kiddos still need protection. The temperature doesn’t do the damage—the UV rays do. Clouds do not block UV rays, they filter them—and sometimes only slightly.
The CDC says, “A wet T-shirt offers much less UV protection than a dry one.” That’s why our long-sleeve swimwear is your new best friend! For extra protection, our swimwear also features UPF 50+ fabric. Keep extra cover-ups handy for when your little ones aren’t in the water.
Wear a Hat
While your child may prefer a baseball cap, we recommend using a hat that provides more shade to the ears and neck. However, make sure to protect exposed areas of the face with sunscreen.
Sunglasses are more than just an accessory – they’re a necessity for kids’ eyes. If it’s time for sunscreen, it’s time for Babiators. Fun in the sun calls for the perfect pair of shades to keep them safe & stylish. Good thing Babiators has sunnies for all of your kiddos’ adventures! Sunglasses protect young eyes from UV damage.
