5 Indoor Activities with Baby to Keep Away the Winter Blues
Having a newborn during the coldest months of winter can be tough, especially if you live in a snowy climate where spending time outdoors simply isn’t an option with a little one in tow. To keep the boredom and blues at bay, try out these easy, indoor activities that are stimulating for baby and fun for you!
1. Dance Party!
Listening to music with your baby is a great way to encourage intellectual and emotional development. Plus, it’ll get you on your feet! Hold your baby close and sway or dance around the room. Try out different genres and have fun watching how your baby reacts.
2. Reading
Books are the best! Not only is reading beneficial for your child’s education and development from day 1, but it’s a great way to pass the time on dreary days. Incorporate reading into your nap or bedtime routine to create healthy, consistent habits that will last for years to come.
3. Texture Adventure
Babies love exploring new and exciting textures! Gather any baby-safe materials from around the house that may be fun for your baby to explore. Tickle them with a feather, play with silky scarves or kerchiefs, grab their softest blankies, or crumple up some tissue paper! Even the different textures of baby clothing can be enough to excite and delight. Just be sure to supervise!
4. Play Peek-A-Boo!
There’s a reason why this silly game has gained such popularity— babies love it! Add your own silly twists to the game by making animal noises, incorporating stuffed animals, using blankets and more.
5. View Family Photos
Create a photo album to look at with your baby! Even if they’re still too young to talk, you can “introduce” them to friends and family members they haven’t had the opportunity to meet yet or special ancestors and pets who have passed on.
